Awesome Inc

“We love what we do. We work well together, we respect each other and treat each new project with excitement.” - Ashley Kohler

Awesome Inc allowed me to really shine. This woman-owned/led studio offered me an exceptional opportunity to round out my Harmony knowledge. During the Jodie movie project, I used my rigging/animation experience to help things run smoother for a hybrid animation team. Then I moved right along to helping the compositing team on Ren & Stimpy.

One of the rewarding challenges solved while working at Awesome Inc. involved Jodie’s braids. They needed to be in front of her face while also going behind her body. Instead of separating the braids into top and bottom, I created a system that allowed sections of her hair to be pinned in place, enabling more effective head turns. Simplicity, however, was key to giving the animation team the freedom they needed to work efficiently.

Research and Development

Before starting on Ren and Stimpy, I did some R&D on my own to see what was possible. I found a model sheet online and played around with different cartoony rigging options. Ultimately, the production team wisely chose to stick with a traditional hand-animated style to preserve the original series' distinctive look and feel.
